Training and Behaviours
We try hard to remain true to our values and principles in everything we do at Paws on the Levels
- All training advice and owner coaching is based on the following beliefs:-
It is our belief and understanding that virtually all training can be successfully achieved through the
knowledgeable use of positive reinforcement & reward. Dogs that display unwanted behaviours do
not have problems understanding their status with other dogs or people. Consequently any attempts
to alter the dog's apparent perception of rank will at best amount to a pointless exercise, at worst cause
even greater problems and may lead to the onset of aggression. Many training and behavioural modification
approaches that are based on the theories of rank reduction and establishing "pack rules" involve some
form of stress, coercion or fear and in extreme cases, inflict pain. We wish to publicly distance ourselves
from such an approach to dog training. - We work hard at improving our knowledge, skills and capabilities in all aspects of canine training
We pick our training courses and providers very carefully, there are many unaccredited and poor quality
courses on offer. The dog training industry is not regulated - anyone can set themselves up and call themselves
anything they like. It is very much a case of Caveat Emptor - buyer beware! - We understand that all dogs are different and that each owner's circumstances are unique
Not everyone wants to train their dog to compete successfully in Agility competitions.
Many people want a happy, friendly, family pet, others have dogs that need help with a specific
training issue. We try hard to be flexible, adaptable & open minded - one size does not fit all!
