March 20th Workshop at Burrowbridge, £20 per person, 1 pm until 6 pm
Great Day - report here
Living and Working with Wolf Look a Likes and Northern Breeds such as the Alaskan Malamute.
To improve people's knowledge and understanding of why dogs in general behave as they do, background to their ancestry
and to further discuss and debate the particular issues and behaviours associated with the growth in popularity of wolf lookalike
and Northern breeds.
For anyone with an interest in dog behaviour generally, but particularly for potential owners, handlers
and other professionals likely to come into contact with these dogs.
These breeds often have traits and temperaments that do not respond well to traditional handling and training.
Unfortunately they are also often in the hands of inexperienced owners.
They are usually very loyal and loving to their close family, but less easy to manage outside the home - and let's face it,
they are quite big as well!!
We are very excited to bring you two very experienced speakers based here in the West Country.
Topics covered will include:-
- An overview of the Origins, Evolution & Development of the dog
- Myths & misconceptions on dominance and how it really works in a family unit.
- Where dogs fit into human society in the 21st century - assistance, sporting, guarding, herding, family pet, etc.
and the growth of "status" dogs as a phenomenon. - History of how Northern breeds and wolf dogs were created
- Temperament differences between a Northern Breed and other breeds, including genetics as appropriate
- How to approach and handle a Northern Breed
- What interests them, holds their attention, gives focus. Motivating techniques
- How to train these breeds
If you love these breeds, currently own one or meet them in your role as a club dog trainer, a boarding kennel or a rescue centre,
then you should not miss this workshop.
Cost £20 per person. Burrowbridge Village Hall TA7 0RJ. Starts at 1pm, ends at 6 pm. Light refreshments included in price.
